A downtown dance competition for charity will host auditions next week.

The DanceOff, in its third year, will hold tryouts from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 15 at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, at 68 Commerce Ave. SW.

The competition pits 16 Grand Rapids dancers against each other for a grand prize of $500, while proceeds benefit local nonprofit Well House.

The contest will be on Dec. 10 and structured in three rounds of competition judged by three local dance professionals.

“Over the past two years, The DanceOff has raised nearly $10,000 for Well House, while showcasing top-notch talent in the Grand Rapids area,” said Jonathan Williams, creator, The DanceOff.

To enter the contest, dancers must submit a three-minute video of their best moves at thedanceoff.co or audition in person at The Pyramid Scheme on Nov. 15. Contestants must register online for the auditions and submit a three-minute clip of their music to be played during the audition.

Contestants who make the cut will compete on stage at the main event on Dec. 10. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the competition begins at 8.

Well House

Since 2013, Well House has moved more than 128 people off the streets and into safe, affordable and permanent housing.

The nonprofit, at 600 Cass St. SE, doesn’t require treatment or sobriety as a pre-condition for placement. Residents are supported with treatment options for their recoveries and integration into the community.

In addition, Well House’s Urban Farm provides opportunities for residents to earn an income and learn skills necessary for entering in the workforce.
