A local contractor has started a new program to recognize the subcontractors it works with.

Grand Rapids-based CD Barnes Construction said last week it created its Key to Our Success Award program to reward its subcontractors that go “above and beyond everyday duties.”

“Our company would not be what it is without the dedication of our subcontractor partners,” said Todd Oosting, EVP, CD Barnes Construction. “We need to start showing them just how important they are to us.”

Some subcontractors have worked with CD Barnes since the firm’s founding in 1954.

CD Barnes said it will hand out the award quarterly.

The first recipients are Zeeland Lumber & Supply and Holland-based Dan Hoe Excavating.

Zeeland Lumber & Supply

Selected by CD Barnes Project Manager John Maycroft, Zeeland Lumber & Supply was recognized for its work on the Ridges of Cascade apartment complex.

The subcontractor was also "the first one to jump on the opportunity" to help on CD Barnes job-site field trips for Innovation Central High School students, as part of a program organized by the Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter.

Zeeland Lumber & Supply President and CEO Mike Dykstra and Business Development Manager Don Trucker were given the Keys to Our Success Award last month.

Dan Hoe Excavating

CD Barnes Project Manager Mike Dempsey chose Dan Hoe Excavating for its work on The Shops at Westshore in Holland, which required a lot of start-and-stop mobilization.

The subcontractor was also recognized for its recycling of asphalt and concrete.

Dan Hoe Excavating President Dan Posma and VP Rich Maike were given the Key to Our Success Award this month.
