Two long-time Grand Rapids painting companies are coming together.

VanDerKolk Painting said today it has purchased Kooi Industrial Painting.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Now we will be able to offer even more options with the addition of Kooi’s exceptional services, while, at the same time, strengthening our existing platform in industrial paint markets,” VanDerKolk Painting President Tom VanDerKolk said.

Kooi Industrial Painting

Founded in 1927, Kooi specializes in industrial paint projects. The company owns one of the largest sandblasting facilities in Michigan, at its Grand Rapids location, at 225 Graham St. SW, which VanDerKolk cited as the most exciting opportunity in the acquisition.

He said the facility will be upgraded with new sandblasting and painting booths.

Kooi's past projects have included “La Grande Vitesse” by Alexander Calder, Sixth Street Bridge and the Amway Grand Plaza.

“These are some of the most-visible sites and places in our community that Kooi has had a hand in preserving and painting,” VanDerKolk said. “We are thrilled to make these services available to our customers and continue to serve Kooi’s clients with customer focused experience.”

VanDerKolk Painting

Founded in 1991, VanDerKolk Painting, at 761 Baylis St. SW, specializes in residential and commercial painting projects.

The company also offers carpentry and drywall, pressure washing, restoration, flooring and refinishing services as well.
