An investment firm in town has named an attorney its new director of wealth management.

Grand Rapids-based Legacy Trust said last week it hired Mark Periard for the role.

Periard will be responsible for leading the firm’s client advisory team, in addition to advising its family office clients.

“We are very fortunate to add someone of Mark’s expertise to our team,” Legacy Trust President and CEO William Walker said. “He brings a wealth of experience in estate planning and general business planning that will immediately benefit our clients and complement the skills of others at the firm. Mark has deep roots in West Michigan and is a proven and respected advisor in this market.”

Periard’s background

Periard spent more than 17 years as an attorney with Warner, Norcross & Judd.

He focused on trusts and estate planning, wealth preservation, family business succession and governance, tax planning and other related areas. He chaired the firm’s trusts and estates practice and also represented small businesses and physician groups.

Previously, he was a senior systems analyst for what is now Accenture, where he helped clients implement financial information systems.

Periard is also a fellow of the State Bar of Michigan, lectures on estate planning topics and has served as an adjunct professor at Thomas Cooley Law School.

He holds a B.A. from Northwestern and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
