Several local hospitality professionals have been recognized for providing outstanding customer service.

Experience Grand Rapids and the Kent County Hospitality Association announced the winners of the ninth-annual WAVE Awards at the Impacting Hospitality Celebration last month. WAVE stands for "way above visitor expectations."

The awards program covers the Grand Rapids and Kent County hospitality industry.

Nominees were evaluated by a panel of judges based on criteria that included the individual’s attitude, attentiveness, performance, knowledge and consistency within the local hospitality industry.

Winners were selected in several categories: Restaurants & Breweries; Attractions & Events; Lodging 150+ Rooms; Lodging Less Than 150 Rooms; Retail & Service; and Volunteer in Hospitality.

Certified Tourism Ambassadors, or CTAs, were also recognized at the celebration for their commitment to improving the customer experience.

The CTA program educates individuals on Grand Rapids and the importance of exceptional customer service to the area.

The seven winners will also be nominated in their categories for the statewide Stars of the Industry Awards.

The winners will be announced at the 2017 Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference, which is an annual industry gathering of tourism and lodging leaders hosted by the Michigan Lodging & Tourism Association and Travel Michigan.
