A bar in town is planning a major makeover.

Michael Farah, owner of Farah’s Bar in Grand Rapids, at 710 Michigan St. NE, will head to the Grand Rapids Planning Commission next week seeking an addition to his bar.

The addition would include 1,152 square feet of building space and 720 square feet of outdoor green space, as well as a bike rack and repair station and reconfigured parking lot.

The project would also place a new façade on the building “to help achieve the master plan of increasing the building profiles along Michigan Street.”

Farah hopes to increase the venue's capacity, with hundreds of nearby living units set to come online in the coming years.

“Farah’s intent is to provide more space for its customers, as well as improving the looks and feel of the space,” Farah says in his application to the city.

Grand Rapids-based Pioneer Construction would be the contractor on the project, according to city files.
