Bartenders compete in live cocktail competition

Six of the best bartenders in Grand Rapids are set to go head-to-head on Monday.

The bartenders will compete live for a cash prize at the Taking the Long Road Cocktail Competition at 5:30 p.m. at Long Road Distillers in Grand Rapids, at 537 Leonard St. NW.

The event is open to the public, with no cover, appetizers, cocktail samples and a cash bar.

Long Road Distillers partnered with the Grand Rapids Bartending Guild, a chapter of the U.S. Bartenders Guild, to host the event. All six finalists are members of the guild.

The six were chosen through an application process and a panel of judges, and each finalist will use Long Road’s spirits in their cocktails.

The winner will be selected based on their cocktail’s narrative, originality, taste, aroma, presentation and performance, as well as a 20-percent vote by the audience. 

"We understand the value of working together as industry members to promote education, camaraderie and collaboration,” said Jon O'Connor, co-owner, Long Road Distillers. “We hope that by fostering a stronger USBG-GR, we can unite the hospitality community in advancing the profession, elevate craft beverage culture and, ultimately, work together to promote excellent service for guests at all of our establishments."
