A local plastics maker is expanding its operation.

Walker-based Custom Profile, a maker of extruded plastic parts for multiple industries, is planning to invest $2.28 million on the project and create 54 jobs, according to The Right Place yesterday.

Custom Profile recently acquired a Wisconsin plastic extrusion and fishing company.

After the acquisition, Custom Profile had the option to continue operations in Wisconsin or move them elsewhere, and it opted to bring the operations to its local location, at 2535 Waldorf Ct. NW.

Incentive

The relocation and expansion are being supported by a $216,000 performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corp, or MEDC.

The Right Place, an economic development nonprofit, helped facilitate the project and provided support in the form of time and resources.

“We are grateful for the support of The Right Place during this new phase of growth,” said Jim Gorant, CFO, Custom Profile. “With all the operational complexities involved with an acquisition like this, it is extremely helpful to have an organization like The Right Place supporting us locally and ensuring we were able to move these jobs here to Walker.”

Custom Profile

Custom Profile, founded in 1992, was acquired by the Grand Rapids-based private equity firm Blackford Capital several years ago and has seen rapid growth since.

It serves various industries: appliance, office furniture, automotive, energy, point-of-purchase and marine.

“Since our acquisition of Custom Profile, the ownership team has met all expectations, from building a positive equity value and job creation to creating a great workplace for our employees,” said Martin Stein, founder and managing partner, Blackford Capital. “We are proud of Custom Profile’s contribution to the community and of everything they have accomplished.”
