A Detroit area car dealer is entering Grand Rapids.

Kia of North Grand Rapids, at 4575 Plainfield Ave. NE, has been acquired by Rich LaLonde, the owner of Summit Place Kia dealerships in Clinton Township and Waterford.

The Grand Rapids dealership is now called Summit Place Kia West.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

It’s the third Kia dealership for LaLonde, who’s also building $10-million dealership in Auburn Hills.

LaLonde expects to add jobs at the Grand Rapids dealership.

“There is no question we have tapped into a very good market for the Kia brand,” LaLonde said.

“I wouldn’t have made the investment into a third Summit Place dealership if I didn’t have full confidence in our business model.”

The dealership last changed hands in early 2015, when the Kia franchise of Keller Ford Kia, at 3385 Alpine Ave. NW, was purchased by Bill Doraty and Jeff Johnson and moved to the Plainfield Avenue location.
