An aviation supplier has announced it will be laying off 74 employees at its local office.

Cincinnati-based GE Aviation said yesterday it is cutting the jobs in Grand Rapids.

The company will also cut 22 positions at its Clearwater, Florida location and 11 from its Evendale, Ohio location.

A spokesperson for GE Aviation said the reductions are mainly within the engineering function.

“What’s driving this is the current aviation market, the lack of new aircraft in the industry and slower sales over the past year. We are experiencing pressures from both the military and commercial markets,” the spokesperson said.

March 6 will be the last day of work for employees whose jobs are being eliminated.

GE Aviation said it will provide severance benefits and assistance to those impacted and help them find employment.
