Mexican restaurant closes doors
A Mexican restaurant in Grand Rapids has shut its doors.
El Barrio Mexican Grill said this morning that yesterday was its last day of operation.
The grill, which was owned by Brad Rosely and David Levitt and operated by Restaurant Partners, opened in 2010 at 545 Michigan St. NE in the Midtown neighborhood.
The area has seen much development over the past seven years, and Rosely and Levitt decided it was time to “prepare for a new opportunity” in the space.
Rosely and Levitt own the building where El Barrio was located and will now be looking for a new restaurant tenant for the space. They don't plan to have an ownership stake in the new restaurant.
El Barrio staff members will have the opportunity to apply for positions at other Restaurant Partners establishments, with the hope that the closing won't result in any job loss.
Restaurant Partners has also agreed to accept unused El Barrio gift cards and complimentary dining certificates at its other establishments around town.
