Construction firm producing Alive 365: Safety Week
A construction company in the region is producing a week-long series of events dedicated to safety, starting on Monday.
Holland-based Elzinga & Volkers will kick off its fourth-annual Alive: 365 Safety Week with its Safety Week Symposium.
The symposium runs from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on March 13 at Pine Rest’s Postma Center in Grand Rapids, at 300 68th St. SE.
The symposium includes vendor exhibits, lunch and speakers. The event is free, but space is limited.
Training sessions during the week feature topics such as first aid, CPR, lift training, fall protection, scaffolding and how to build a safety committee.
Last year, 78 West Michigan companies and nearly 500 construction professionals took part in the safety week, said Mike Novakoski, presdient and CEO, Elzinga & Volkers.
“We continue to see great value in offering ongoing safety education in the construction industry through our Safety Symposium and Safety Week,” Novakoski said.
There were 44 work-site deaths in Michigan in 2016, according to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Elzinga & Volkers said it hopes to help bring the number to zero.
A full agenda of sessions during Alive 365: Safety Week can be found on the firm’s website.
