A local law firm will host a one-day seminar downtown on human resources, employee benefits and related legislation.

Warner Norcross & Judd said this week it will offer its 2017 HR Seminar on May 23.

The annual event, which will feature 22 attorneys speaking on various labor and employment topics, will be held at the Amway Grand Plaza in downtown Grand Rapids, at 187 Monroe Ave. NW.

Partner Heidi Lyon, chair of the firm's employee benefits practice, and partner Karen VanderWerff, chair of the firm's labor practice, are two of the event's presenters.

Seminar format

The seminar will include overview discussions and breakout sessions in half-day blocks.

The morning half will focus on employee benefits and kick off with a discussion on legislative updates and trends. The afternoon block will consist of information on labor and employment, opening with an overview of legislative updates.

Breakout sessions will cover a number of topics: employers’ legal HR obligations; "myths" about benefits plans; employee incentives; and more.

The seminar also includes a networking lunch.

Registration

The seminar costs $90 for a half day for Warner Norcross clients, $140 for a half day for non-clients, $145 for a full day for clients and $195 for a full day for non-clients.

People can register for the seminar online.
