Developer proposes eight-story building downtown
The Grand Rapids Historic Preservation Commission will hold an advisory discussion tomorrow concerning a new eight-story building proposed for 11 Cherry St. SW.
Developer Joseph Niewiek requested the meeting to discuss plans for the building, which would require the demolition of a circa 1951 rear addition to 137-139 S. Division to accommodate the project.
The building would be constructed on a vacant lot, combined with the property now housing the 1951 addition.
The commission will discuss massing and larger design concepts with Niewiek.
Niewiek would especially like a better understanding of massing and scale options, before expending time and money on further elements, according to Historic Preservation Commission paperwork.
No formal decision will be made during the meeting, and any comments or recommendations made are not binding on the applicant or commission.
