Fundraising company acquires competitor
A local fundraising company has acquired an out-of-state competitor.
West Michigan-based Great Lakes Scrip Center, or GLSC, announced the acquisition of The Manna Group of Illinois.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
GLSC said the acquisition adds 800 organizations to ShopWithScrip, the company’s fundraising program.
ShopWithScrip is a gift card-based fundraising program. Money is raised when gift cards are purchased on ShopWithScrip.com.
These gift cards all have a rebate percentage on them, normally between 2 percent and 16 percent, which is the amount that will go directly to the organization when the card is purchased at face value.
Over the past two decades, ShopWithScrip claims to have contributed to fundraising initiatives for more 30,000 organizations, raising more than $570 million.
GLSC said its extensive growth in the past several years is due to its advanced e-commerce offerings, direct connections with big-name retailers and established industry presence.
Jill Whalen, Great Lakes Scrip Center vice president of retail partnerships, said relationships with large national retailers have been a priority for the company since it was founded two decades ago.
“We work closely with over 750 major retail brands such as Starbucks, Target, Whole Foods, Walmart, and Speedway,” she said. “With so many retailers, customers are able to use scrip on all their grocery, gas, dining, travel and home improvement purchases.”
ShopWithScrip will fulfill The Manna Group orders with customers enrolling on ShopWithScrip by June 5.
“We are working closely with The Manna Group to ensure customers are aware of the changes and know what to expect,” Whalen said. “We have a long history of providing coaching and training to the more than 30,000 organizations we’ve helped raise money over the years, and we will be available to The Manna Group customers both during the transition and going forward as they add features available on ShopWithScrip to grow their fundraising.”
The acquisition is GLSC’s second in the past two years.
