A retailer of home furnishings and décor is planning to open a new store in the region.

HomeGoods plans to open a 19,000-square-foot location in Portage at the Westnedge@Kilgore, at 5050 S. Westnedge, according to Portage-based Hinman today. The firm is constructing the store.

Construction is expected to start this summer, with an opening planned for next spring.

HomeGoods has two stores in the Grand Rapids area, as well as locations in Holland and Norton Shores.

“HomeGoods is a fantastic retailer and will be a complementary addition to the shopping center,” Hinman CEO Roger Hinman said.

The retailer joins Earth Fare and Southern Michigan Bank & Trust as tenants of the shopping center.

Additional development is planned for the Westnedge@Kilgore on vacant land, and there's 3,200 square feet of retail space available in the center.

HomeGoods has more than 500 stores across the U.S.

The chain is owned by Framingham, Massachusetts-based TJX Companies, which also owns TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
