A downtown retailer is moving down the street to a larger storefront.

Apothecary Off Main will move out of its location in MoDiv, at 40 Monroe Center St. NW, to a retail suite within The Morton, at 76 Monroe Center St. NW, according to Rockford Construction yesterday.

The retailer’s new storefront is expected to open in early June.

The move will take Apothecary Off Main from a 779-square-foot space to a 900-square-foot location.

The retailer has also hired two new employees.

Downtown spaces

“It has been amazing to be able to be a part of MoDiv, and we could not be more delighted to grow into a new, larger space in the heart of downtown,” said Jill Devan, store director, Apothecary Off Main.

“As our city has grown, we have been able to welcome so many people to our shop. As our client base has increased, we began looking at a larger space that will allow us to continue to grow the number of products we offer.”

MoDiv is a retail incubator operated by Grand Rapids-based Rockford Construction, and The Morton is a Rockford apartment complex.

Staying in downtown, near MoDiv, was important to Devan.

“People living in and visiting downtown seek out shopping,” Devan said. “Offering unique products in a location that is easy to visit is key, and we enjoyed being in a shared space as we established the store.”

The shop

Apothecary Off Main sells a variety of items from crafters, including remedies, kitchen items, bath and body items, candles, men’s products and aromatherapy.

The retailer also has a location in Vista, California, where it was started.
