A long-awaited downtown brewery is opening this weekend.

The grand opening of City Built Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, at 820 Monroe Ave. NW, will be Saturday, after more than two years of preparation.

“It’s been quite a ride,” said Edwin Collazo, co-founder of the brewery, along with Dave Petroelje. “But, as we have said before, if it was easy, anyone could — and probably would — do it. We want to thank our investors, our families and the Grand Rapids community for their patience and support — you will not be disappointed.”

The brewery is in a corner retail space at 616 Lofts at 820 Monroe and consists of a 2,300-square-foot brewing area and seating capacity for 180 people in the taproom.

Petroelje has brewed beer since 1996 and uses unusual ingredients, such as herbs and spices, in many of his beers.

The beers will be paired with a Puerto Rican-inspired menu from Collazo’s family heritage.
