A Microsoft evangelist will headline a coding event this weekend in Grand Rapids.

The Beer City Code conference will bring together hundreds of Midwest developers Friday and Saturday at the Calvin College Covenant Fine Arts Center, at 3201 Burton St. SE.

“Our region has one of the best economies in the nation for its size,” said Traci Marcero, a senior technical recruiter at Atlas Coast, a sponsor of the conference.

“This conference celebrates two drivers of that success, information technology and excellent beer.”

Last year, the offshoot of Grand Rapids DevDay attracted nearly 400 developers, but organizers are expecting more this year.

The conference will feature talks, hands-on workshops and breakout sessions for developers of all ages and career positions.

Jon Galloway, a senior technical evangelist at Microsoft and director of the .NET Foundation, is the keynote speaker.

The conference finishes with a tour of area breweries.
