A local health system has opened a 35,500-square-foot facility on the Medical Mile.

Spectrum Health Medical Group’s fifth integrated care campus, or ICC, is located in downtown Grand Rapids, at 426 Michigan St. NE, and began welcoming patients this week.

A celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony for the ICC was held last month, followed by a community preview of the building.

“We are pleased to be able to offer primary health services to people who live and work downtown,” said Tina Freese Decker, EVP and COO, Spectrum Health. “This facility will offer convenient, coordinated care to an increasing number of patients.”

The Spectrum integrated care campus will house one internal medicine primary practice and one pediatric primary care practice, which were previously housed at 1300 Michigan St. NE.

The facility will also include occupational health, rehabilitation, lab and radiology services.

Built in 1987, the building was previously home to various medical practices and services.

Firms on the project

To accommodate the needs of Spectrum, the building underwent a re-design by Grand Rapids-based Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber, and Lansing-based Granger Construction took the lead on the build out.

Spectrum Health has several other ICCs in the region: on East Beltline Avenue NE in Grand Rapids; Ionia; Holland; and North Muskegon.

The health system is also planning to open an ICC in Rockford in August and an ICC in Ada in early 2018.
