Food maker releases corporate responsibility report

A West Michigan food maker is sharing details on its commitment to provide healthier foods for consumers and nourishment to communities in need.

Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company released its 2016-17 corporate responsibility report on World Environment Day this month.

The report outlines Kellogg’s success in reducing sugar and sodium in its cereals, continued removal of artificial coloring and flavorings in its products and commitment to donate 2.5-billion servings of food to people in need.

“We’re a company with a heart and soul, focused on making a difference, while responsibly growing our business,” said Kris Charles, SVP of global corporate affairs, Kellogg Company.

Also included in the report are Kellogg’s plans to expand breakfast programs to reach 2-million children worldwide and its work to support 500,000 farmers and families through its Kellogg’s Origins Program, which works with 294,000 farmers worldwide who grow priority ingredients and provides guidance on smart agriculture to more than 15,000 smallholder farms in Kellogg’s direct supply chain. The company provides similar support to 10,000 female farmers.

“We understand that the decisions we make have far-reaching consequences, and we work hard to make a positive impact on the people and places we touch,” said John Bryant, chairman and CEO, Kellogg Company.
