A national nonprofit considers a number of organizations in the region to be bike-friendly.

The League of American Bicyclists recently announced its new and renewed Bicycle Friendly Businesses.

The nonprofit rates and recognizes organizations for their efforts promoting bicycling for employees, customers and the community.

Organizations are given a platinum, gold, silver or bronze-level recognition.

There are 1,343 organizations nationally with the certification.

Grand Rapids as a city is a bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community, as awarded in 2013.
