Three developers have been asked to propose their visions for a nearly 16-acre riverfront property downtown.

RFPs

Indianapolis-based Flaherty & Collins Properties, Southfield-based REDICO and Grand Rapids-based Rockford Construction have been invited by the City of Grand Rapids to respond to its request for proposal, or RFP, to purchase and develop the city-owned site at 201 Market Ave. SW, along the Grand River.

The developers must submit their RFPs and enter into a development agreement by Aug. 25.

RFPs are expected to include pieces cited in planning documents for the site, including GR Forward, Grand Rapids WhiteWater, Green Grand Rapids Report and Grand Rapids Parks Master Plan.

A decision based on the proposals will be made and recommended to the Grand Rapids City Commission after the deadline.

RFQ process

Five development teams responded to the city’s request for qualifications, or RFQ, which was issued in April.

The five submissions were evaluated by representatives from the City of Grand Rapids, Downtown Development Authority, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., Grand Rapids Urban League, Hispanic Center of Western Michigan and the real estate firm JLL.

Interviews were also performed.
