College hires director of alumni relations
A local college has hired an alum to serve as its new director of alumni relations.
Cornerstone University said last week it selected Dennis Graham for the role.
“Being a double grad of this university and graduating in ’05 with my undergrad and 2012 with my M.B.A., I feel blessed and ecstatic to once again be part of this place that changed my life,” Graham said.
Graham is responsible for connecting with alumni, informing them of campus events and initiatives, keeping track of their careers and staying in touch with donors in collaboration with the advancement team.
He plans to launch several regional alumni chapters, starting in August with one in Auburn Hills and one in Chicago.
He also oversees the university alumni magazine and the bi-weekly newsletters and supervises student employees.
“We’ve got a lot of exciting things going on at Cornerstone: one is the new science building, which hasn’t been built yet, but they’re breaking ground on it in a couple of months,” he said.
Graham taught middle school outdoor discovery science and core enrichment for two years at Vestaburg Middle School.
In 2009, he returned to Cornerstone University to earn his M.B.A. While a graduate student, Graham served as the head JV men’s basketball coach and as an assistant with the varsity team.
Most recently, he was the assistant director of human resources at Isabella Bank in Midland.
Graham said he’s looking to get involved in volunteering in the community.
“I’m looking for opportunities,” he said. “My heart is to serve people. Before I moved to Grand Rapids, I was in the Midland area and was becoming a part of an organization called New Hope Village, a homeless shelter for children and adults. I’m hoping to find something like that here.”
He received his B.A. in 2005 and his M.B.A. in 2012 from Cornerstone.
Founded in 1941, Cornerstone University is a non-denominational Christian liberal arts school in Grand Rapids.
The school has undergraduate and graduate programs, two seminaries — Grand Rapids Theological Seminary and Asia Baptist Theological Seminary based in Chiang Mai, Thailand — and a radio division called Cornerstone University Radio, or 91.3 WCSG.
