A local financial advisory firm has been named one of the top 300 investment advisors in the country by an industry publication.

Grand Rapids-based Financial Advisory Corporation is in the 2017 "FT 300" by the Financial Times. Southfield-based Advance Capital Management, which operates a Grand Rapids office, is also among the firms recognized.

More than 2,000 registered investment advisors, or RIAs, were invited to participate by the Financial Times and about 725 applied for consideration. Nine Michigan firms made the ranking.

Applicants were selected based on a formula that considers six criteria: advisor assets under management; asset growth; company age; industry certifications of key employees; compliance record; and online accessibility. Assets under management comprised about 65 to 70 percent of the overall score, and asset growth accounted for about 10 to 15 percent.
