A Grand Rapids contractor is in the midst of a leadership change.

F&V Companies board of directors has announced multiple changes to the leadership structure of the company’s subsidiaries. Co-founder Larry Fleis was appointed chairman of the board and will continue to serve as president of F&V Companies Inc.

FVCI is the parent company of Fleis & Vandenbrink Engineering, F&V Construction and F&V Operations and Resources Management. In his capacity as president, Fleis will oversee all three operating companies and their management teams.

“I’m not turning in my key and walking out the door,” Fleis said. “But the transition is continuing.”

FVCI Vice President Paul Galdes was appointed president of F&V Engineering and senior vice president of the other companies. Galdes will oversee day-to-day operations of the engineering operation.

Galdes joined F&V in 1993 and was named vice president of operations in 2014.

“It’s an exciting time to be at F&V,” Galdes said. “We’ve all been anticipating and planning the transition for a long time.”

Office Manager Craig Shumaker was appointed vice president of operations and treasurer of all the F&V companies.

Fleis and Steve VandenBrink founded the company in 1993.

VandenBrink retired in 2015. Fleis has not yet set a timetable for his retirement.

The transition of leadership actually began in 2006 when six team members were named to the F&V Principal/Associate program.
