Some independent West Michigan hotels are attracting worldwide fanfare.

HotelsCombined, a global hotel price comparison website, recently released its Recognition of Excellence Awards for U.S. hotels, with four in West Michigan landing on the list.

Kara’s Kottages, located in Kalamazoo, won the 2017 award for best small city hotels in Michigan.

The Leonard at Logan House, in Grand Rapids, was a finalist in the state’s metropolitan category. Also earning finalist status in the small city category were Baypointe Inn Shelbyville, in Hopkins, and Grand Haven’s Boyden House Inn.

Hotel finalists and winners are chosen by the HotelsCombined team of data experts following several criteria, including quality and quantity of user reviews, customer rating, the absence of recurring or unresolved issues, social media posts, blogs and forums.

HotelsCombined has helped more than 400 million travelers search and compare hotel deals, is a four-time winner of the World Travel Awards and is available in more than 42 languages and delivers prices in 130 currencies.

“We’re very pleased to be able to recognize some of the finest hotels in Michigan and the entire United States this year,” said Chris Rivett, travel expert at HotelsCombined. “A lot of hard work goes into ensuring guests have an exceptional experience and this is our chance to showcase and reward the hotels, resorts and B&Bs that are at the top of their game.”

All finalists scored at least 9 out of a possible 10 points, placing them in the top 10 percent of hotels in the U.S.
