A law firm based on the east side of the state has opened an office in downtown Grand Rapids.

Detroit-based Lusk Albertson, which represents school districts and other educational entities throughout Michigan, said yesterday it opened an 1,800-square-foot office in The Loraine Building, at 124 Fulton St. E.

“Our expansion to Grand Rapids is a direct response to heightened interest in our approach to providing strategic legal counsel, driven by common sense solutions,” said Robert Lusk, CEO, Lusk Albertson. “Our firm is committed to offering on-the-ground support to help districts in every corner of the state achieve their mission of delivering the highest quality education possible.”

Staff

Lusk Albertson partner Eric Delaporte will head the new location. The firm plans to hire two attorneys and a legal assistant who will work exclusively in Grand Rapids. Partners Kevin Sutton and Robert Schindler also will work in Grand Rapids part-time with Detroit as their home base.

Reason for expansion

Sutton said Lusk Albertson serves several West Michigan clients from its office in Detroit, including Muskegon Area Intermediate School District and Reeths-Puffer High School. But the firm wanted to be able to offer face-to-face counsel.

“We have clients on the west side of the state and the northwest, and the impetus was to be closer to them to be able to provide personal service and not just phone calls and Skype,” Sutton said. “We feel there’s demand for our services and the way we approach them, so we felt Grand Rapids would be a good base of operations for that.”

Landlord and broker

Andrew Post, of Post Associates architectural firm, is the landlord for the firm’s new space in The Loraine Building. Core Partners is the broker.
