A salad dressing maker in the area is expanding its operations and plans to add 77 jobs.

Sandpoint, Idaho-based Litehouse is investing in its Lowell plant, at 1400 Foreman St. SE, to accommodate “increased growth,” according to The Right Place yesterday.

The company recently completed a 25,000-square-foot expansion of the plant and is bringing in "additional operations capabilities." The combined efforts represent a $12.1-million investment by Litehouse.

“Litehouse is excited to expand our production facilities and workforce in Lowell,” said Jim Frank, president and CEO, Litehouse.

“The company is experiencing strong growth, especially in our Eastern U.S. and Canadian markets, making our Michigan plant essential to our current and future growth. We are grateful to The Right Place for the opportunity to continue to grow our Michigan business.”

Incentives

The Right Place, an economic development agency in Grand Rapids, worked with the company to grow locally, rather than Litehouse expanding at its other manufacturing locations in Idaho and Utah.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, or MEDC, has approved a $462,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the expansion.

Lowell has also offered to assist the company in finding candidates for the newly created positions.

Litehouse

Litehouse makes food dressings, sauces and oils.

The company was founded in 1977 and merged with Chadalee Farms in 1997. Chadalee Farms has been operating in Lowell for more than 80 years.

Litehouse employs about 373 employees in Michigan and about 1,000 across the U.S.
