A Las Vegas-based tech company is planning to expand its campus in the area.

Switch, a data center company, said this week in its third-quarter earnings conference call it will add up to 940,000 square feet of operating space to its Pyramid Campus in Gaines Township, at 4200 60th St. SE.

The project will break ground in 2018.

The company said it spent $4.8 million on the expansion project during the third quarter.

Switch currently operates more than 220,000 square feet of space at the campus and uses 20 megawatts of power.

“The utilization rate as of the third quarter 2017 in the Pyramid Campus was 46 percent, based on the currently open data center space,” Morton said in the call.

Morton also highlighted a “tax-free renaissance zone,” which will allow Switch customers to avoid paying taxes on equipment they co-locate at the Pyramid Campus.
