A family owned bakery is moving to a new shopping center in town to accommodate its growth.

Sara’s Sweets Bakery signed a 10-year lease for a 1,300-square-foot location in Grand Rapids Township, at 2365 E. Beltline Ave. NE.

The new shopping center is scheduled for completion in March 2018.

Sara’s Sweets plans to close its current location, at 2211 E. Beltline Ave. NE, in June and re-open in July.

Tracey Smith, owner of Sara’s Sweets Bakery, started the business five years ago with her daughter, Sara and her son, Andy.

“I was downsized six years ago, and Sara and I took a cake-decorating class together, and then we opened the bakery six months later,” Smith said. “Sara decorates cakes, Andy makes the frosting and I bake everything.”

The Smiths chose the new location, because it has the space needed to accommodate their growing business and is close by their current location.

The bakery specializes in custom cakes and a variety of other baked goods featuring hand-made frosting.

Tuesdays feature buy-one-get-one-free cupcakes, and the bakery delivers within a five-mile radius.

Bill Tyson with NAI Wisinski West Michigan assisted Sara’s Sweets with the lease deal.

Doug Taatjes and Hillary Taatjes Woznick of NAI Wisinski are handling the leasing for the remaining spaces in the shopping center.

Available spaces range from 1,300 to 8,000 square feet.
