Appliance maker partners with Honeywell
An appliance maker in the region is linking up with Honeywell to connect smart appliances with thermostats.
Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation announced a collaboration with Morris Plains, New Jersey-based Honeywell last week.
Consumers will be able to connect smart appliances from Whirlpool Corporation to Honeywell’s line of connected thermostats, allowing for remote management of appliance operating modes and energy outputs via smartphone app.
The capabilities will roll out across more than 25 brands in Whirlpool’s portfolio throughout 2018.
“The capabilities made possible through this collaboration will help homeowners take the guesswork out of home appliance energy management while they’re away and bring peace of mind that their appliances are operating according to their personal preference,” said Brett Dibkey, VP of brand and strategy for North America, Whirlpool Corporation.
Scott Harkins, VP and general manager of connected homes for Honeywell Home and Building Technologies, said the partnership is designed to increase energy efficiency for consumers.
“This integration with Whirlpool, a leader in the home appliance space, allows us to continue to offer homeowners an even easier, more seamless opportunity to make smarter decisions, specifically as it relates to energy use,” Harkins said.
- Opportunity for auto adjustment to “away” mode on appliances when Honeywell geofencing technology detects a consumer is away from home
- Ability to delay appliance cycles, such as dishwashing, until the consumer is detected via the Honeywell thermostat app to be away from home
- Managing the temperature of the home based on appliance cycles
