A local maker of custom luxury carpets has appointed two co-CEOs.

Grand Rapids-based Scott Group Studio said last week it named John Hart, a recent hire, and Tim Hill, a long-time executive and co-owner, as co-CEOs.

Michael Ruggeri, the company’s president and CEO since 1990, will transition to the role of board chair.

“Having this CEO team with Tim Hill and John Hart will help us continue to build our momentum in both the A&D (aerospace and defense) and aviation communities,” Ruggeri said. “Additionally, these changes signify our continuous commitment to be a luxury brand leader and an important resource for our audience.”

Hill said Ruggeri’s “vision, design-forward thinking and passion for providing exceptional products and service” has been “a life-long labor of love.”

“I am looking forward to his continued support as our chairman and to working in partnership with John,” Hill said. “I am humbled to have the opportunity to help lead the talented team at Scott Group Studio into the future.”

Year of growth

Scott Group Studio said the leadership transition comes on the heels of “a year of robust growth.”

In 2017, Scott Group Studio opened showrooms in Chicago and New York and acquired Grand Rapids-based PWV Studios Ltd.

Hart’s background

Hart joined Scott Group Studio in February 2017 as EVP of residential and commercial.

Previously, he led Kohler Company’s Ann Sacks, Kallista, Baker and McGuire businesses in a variety of general management and group marketing executive roles.

Hart earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Oregon in 1989 and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1994.

Hill’s background

Hill joined Scott Group in 1996 as head of finance and operations, has been a co-owner since 1997 and most recently served as COO.

He earned a B.B.A. in accounting and finance from the University of Michigan in 1982.

Ruggeri’s background

Ruggeri began his career at Scott Group Studio in 1979, eventually purchased the company in 1997 along with Hill and his brother, Rich Ruggeri, and became president and CEO in 1990.

He earned a B.B.A. in management from Bowling Green State University in 1978.
