Three West Michigan employers have been named to a ranking of the most respected companies in the world.

Fortune magazine released last week its 2018 ranking of the “World’s Most Admired Companies,” rating companies in 52 industries across the globe for their people management and social responsibility.

Grand Rapids-based Steelcase, Kalamazoo-based Stryker and Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation made the list, earning unranked positions outside the top 50.

The top five companies on the ranking are Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Berkshire Hathaway and Starbucks.

Rounding out the top 10 are Disney, Microsoft, Southwest Airlines, FedEx and JPMorgan Chase.

Methodology

The ranking features the most respected and reputable companies around the world, as ranked by peers within their respective industries.

It is based on a survey of corporate reputation that takes into account the observations and opinions of 3,900 industry executives.

The survey consists of nine categories: innovation; people management; use of corporate assets; social responsibility; quality of management; long-term investment; financial soundness; quality of products and services; and global competitiveness.

Other Michigan companies in the ranking

DowDuPont
DTE Energy
Ford Motor Co.
