An outdoor footwear brand has created a new line of award-winning hiking boots.

Merrell, a brand of Rockford-based Wolverine Worldwide, a maker of footwear and apparel, said last month it is rolling out its Thermo Rogue boots.

The winter hiking boots feature PrimaLoft insulation technology and Arctic Grip Dura outsoles made by the Italian footwear company Vibram.

The Thermo Rogue is designed to be an athletic, two-season hybrid boot "suitable for any hike."

The boots offer lightweight insulation, while the Arctic Dura Grip helps maintain traction on ice, snow and slush.

"We're continuing to see a merge happening in the trail running and mountaineering arenas," said Steve Workman, VP of Hike, Merrell. "We're seeing a growth of experience-based runs that feature huge elevation changes and technical terrain.

“We knew we had to meet the challenge of creating the perfect winter boot to meet these conditions — one that significantly cuts back on excess bulk, while still offering premium protection for harsh weather environments."

Thermo Rogue debuted at the 2018 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, where it earned Gear Junkie’s “Best in Show” designation.

The boots also won the 2018 ISPO Gold Award in the winter boots category.
