There's a class downtown this week for beer enthusiasts who are interested in learning about hops.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum and Elk Brewing are partnering to offer Beer Explorers: Hops! for people 21 and older at the museum this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Students in the class will get the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities, such as smelling, tasting and touching, and how hops are used to brew beer.

Experts from Elk Brewing, such as a propagator, grower, processor and brewer, will explain the roles they play in the brewing process and what they look for when choosing hops.

Students from Grand Rapids Community College will direct the class in a tasting session.

Elk Brewing will offer four tasting samples featuring a variety of hops: Brewtus Coffee Porter, Dankalicious, PB & Jaley and Blonde Express.

There will be a cash bar.

Tickets are $10 for museum members and $20 for non-members.

People can be purchase tickets online.

Doors will open at 6 p.m.
