Guild producing battle of bartenders

Local bartenders will compete downtown next week for the title of best mixologist.

The Grand Rapids Bartending Guild will host the first Battle of the West on April 10 from 7-10 p.m at H.O.M.E., inside The B.O.B., in Grand Rapids.

Guests will have a chance to sample the contestants’ cocktails and vote on their favorites. The winner will walk away with the title of "Best Bartender in West Michigan."

Each of the eight contestants must incorporate at least one of the following spirits in their cocktails: Bulleit Whiskey, Ketel One Vodka, Nolet’s Gin, Johnnie Walker Black Label Scotch, Belvedere Vodka, Glenmorangie 10-year-old Original Scotch Whisky, Hennessy V.S., Don Julio Añejo Tequila or Ron Zacapa.

The event will feature eight contestants and their cocktails:

  • Jeremy Williams: The Spyglass
  • Justin Whitman: La Loba
  • Alex Atkins: Glacial Melt
  • Jenna Dykehouse: Siesta de Hinojo
  • Nick Walsh: Best Medicine
  • Maureen DiVergilio: Des-Passito
  • Matthew Baker: No Gimlets
  • Mandi Kuszynski: Blood Orange Dreamsicle

General admission covers cocktail samples and appetizers during the event.
