Grand Rapids ranks near the top of a global index of cities with “hipster” qualities.

Grand Rapids ranks No. 28 in "The Hipster Index," a ranking of 446 cities across 20 countries by MoveHub, a business that helps people with moving logistics. The ranking was published this month.

MoveHub says it sought to answer the question, “What’s the most hipster city in the world?”

The ranking is based on five data points: the number of vegan eateries, coffee shops, tattoo studios, vintage boutiques and record stores per 100,000 city residents.

MoveHub combined and weighted the data to produce a score out of ten for each city. The score for Grand Rapids is 5.9221

Cities with populations below 150,000 were excluded from the study.
