A new $19.3-million apartment complex on the city’s West Side has begun leasing.

601 West in Grand Rapids, at 601 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, features 63 apartments and 8,500 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor.

While the apartment complex “officially” opens on June 1, six units have been leased and are occupied at press time.

The complex includes one five-story building and one three-story building.

Amenities include gigabit-speed internet, a community room, in-unit washers and dryers, a rooftop deck and underground parking.

The community features a mix of studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments starting at $1,300 per month and ranging from 506 to 1,460 square feet. Pets are welcome.

The commercial space hasn't been leased yet.

“The response to 601 West has been overwhelming,” said Chad Barton, owner of 601 West and principal at Grand Rapids-based Cherry Street Capital.

“It’s a fantastic central location that is walkable to so many amenities of the West Side and downtown, including the river, the YMCA, the Bridge Street district and more.”

Guest may tour 601 West's on-site model unit Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
