A local tech company is expanding and planning to create 115 jobs.

Tech Defenders, which offers electronics maintenance and repair services, has grown out of its current 15,000-square-foot office in Grand Rapids, at 2350 Oak Industrial Dr. NE, according to The Right Place yesterday.

Tech Defenders plans to expand into a 73,000-square-foot facility in Grand Rapids, at 601 Maryland Ave. NE, investing $2.7 million in the expansion.

“As we continue to grow both nationally and internationally, we need a larger location that will grow with us,” said Garry VonMyhr, CEO, Tech Defenders. “We are grateful to The Right Place, and their partners, for providing the strategic insights and resources we needed to make this happen right here in Grand Rapids.”

The Right Place, an economic development agency in Grand Rapids, said the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has approved a $172,500 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the project.

“We’re excited to work with Tech Defenders and build the business case to keep their company growth right here in West Michigan,” said Eric Icard, senior business development manager, The Right Place.

Tech Defenders works primarily with school districts across the U.S., which use computers and mobile devices in the classroom, such as Chromebooks, iPads and MacBooks.

The company offers repair services for such devices and buys them back when they become obsolete.
