Bank acquisition helps spark Chemical recovery

Chemical Financial Co., holding company for Chemical Bank, had 2,703,009 shares of outstanding common stock. In April 2010, 71 percent of those shares voted on an acquisition of O.A.K. Financial Corp., the holding company for Byron Bank, in an all-stock transaction. When the votes came in, 96 percent had voted in favor of the acquisition.

Whirlpool firms up Michigan presence

Whirlpool Corp. made a significant commitment to its future in West Michigan when it announced in July its plans to build a new office campus as part of a consolidation of its 15 owned and leased facilities to three centralized office campuses. Whirlpool officials have said they plan to invest $85 million in the company's world headquarters, including the development in Benton Harbor. When the project is complete in five years, about one-third of the workers will be housed in each of three facilities in St. Joseph, Benton Harbor and Benton Township.
