Thoughts become things

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right.”

About a dozen years ago, right around the time I was starting to build the foundation for 616 Development, I began a “season.” Like any young entrepreneur, I read every self-help and get-rich-quick book I could get my hands on.

Then in late 2006, I stumbled upon a book called “The Secret.” Though it was only a universal truth (laws of attraction) packaged with a pretty marketing bow, the mantra inside of “thoughts become things” really resonated with me.

For any good or bad result (thing), there was first a seed (thought).

I began to be intentional about this universal law. I noticed that the more I shifted my thoughts, the more I was my shifting my life.

Armed with this new, thoughtful process and regimen, I hired my first business coach. He challenged me right out of the gates to write a one-page document, in present tense, describing how my life (business and personal) would look when my pure vision was complete.

Twelve years later, those very thoughts turned into the thing I now describe as my life. It is working, and now as I mature, my thoughts and vision are maturing as well.

The exciting days of grand openings and moving our residents into newly redeveloped buildings likely came about after a single thought years ago. Isn't that incredibly empowering?

Be intentional in your thoughts. Be thoughtful in your actions. And always remember the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for."

Inward. Onward. Upward!
