LaughFest will stick with tradition when it attempts to break an existing Guinness World Record next month: the most people wearing fake mustaches.

The fake-mustache-wearing record was set last year when the NFL’s St. Louis Rams found 648 people to don mustaches.

The silly stunt is nothing new for the comedy festival.

Last year, festival goers set the Guinness World Record for the largest number of people wearing animal noses — with 607 folks donning chicken beaks. In 2011, LaughFest organizers were responsible for 925 rubber chickens being tossed around downtown Grand Rapids, shattering that previous record by more than 600.

To participate in this year’s shenanigans, head to Rosa Parks Circle at 5:30 p.m. on opening night, Thursday, March 7.

Official LaughFest mustaches will be distributed, and the world record will officially be counted at 6:30.

Sounds like a standard after-hours event to us.

After the mustache madness, opening-night festivities will continue with celebratory chicken dinners at participating restaurants and opening-night parties with sneak-peek comedy at Pub 43, GP Sports, The Woods and Buffalo Wild Wings, starting at 8 p.m.
