A sea of camo-wearing shoppers took over the parking lot of Cabela’s in Grandville for the store's grand opening on a cold early spring morning.

The long-anticipated store lined up shoppers in the Bucktown shopping center on Thursday before opening its doors.

Matt Kruchowski, decked out completely in orange camouflage and cold gear, was officially the first customer through the doors on Thursday.

Kruchowski had been waiting in line since Wednesday afternoon. He and his buddies, Ryan Hulce, Kevin Ricker, John Brennan and Will Pichler, had all camped out — excited to earn rewards from the store for being among the first in line.

After opening words from Grandville Mayor James Buck, Cabela’s CEO Tommy Millner and Grandville Cabela’s General Manager John Woniewski, it was time for a ribbing cutting that would have made even Robin Hood proud.

Professional hunter Chad Schearer, host of “Shoot Straight TV," took his place atop a hunter’s blind and on his first shot, fired an arrow that cut through an orange disk, slicing the ribbon and officially opening Cabela’s up for business.

After the doors of Grandville Cabela's first opened, the customers flooded in — taking about 50 minutes for the entire line to get inside.
