Brewery throws b'day party
A growing brewery is hosting a day-long party this Saturday to celebrate its second anniversary.
Mitten Brewing Co. in northwest Grand Rapids, which opened on Nov. 16, 2012, is now a brewery in expansion mode with a growing roster of beer.
To celebrate, co-owners Chris Andrus and Max Trierweiler are producing a free birthday party, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.
Guests will be invited to try 15 craft beers “stored away” by brewers Jason Warnes, Wob Wanhatalo and Alex Atkin. The brews will be tapped throughout the day.
The event will include prize giveaways, including Detroit Tigers and Mitten Brewing memorabilia and commemorative glasses.
The party will also feature musical performances, starting at 8 p.m., by the Crane Wives’ Kate Pillsbury and Emilee Petersmark and the duo Rio.
“We can’t thank our customers enough and encourage them to come celebrate with us,” Trierweiler said. “This year, our business is another year more mature, and we’re looking to put on an even better party.”
Since its opening, Mitten Brewing’s taproom has doubled, adding a second floor and patio, which was recently awarded the Best Exterior Renovation at the city’s Neighborhood Business Awards.
Mitten Brewing also plans to open a new production facility across the street.
“We’re in a better position than ever,” Andrus said. “Once the production facility is open, we’ll finally be able to keep the taproom full of beer and begin to get our brand out on the market. We’re looking forward to 2015 and the great things it has in store.”
