A lakeshore city with clean beaches and a craft beer scene is one of the “most-beautiful” small towns in the nation.

Cincinnati-based Impulcity, a daily guide to city life, last week named Holland to the No. 2 position in its ranking of the “19 Most Beautiful Small Towns in America.”

“The beaches are clean, and the air is much fresher, and less humid, than the beaches down south,” the post says. “A stroll down the beach, taking in the lake and Holland's historic lighthouse is sheer bliss, and they even have their own craft brewery. It's no wonder why Holland is also one of Michigan's most-visited tourists locations, too.”

Holland

The lakeshore city is known for its annual Tulip Time festival, downtown Holland, Hope College, New Holland Brewing Co., authentic De Zwaan windmill, Big Red lighthouse and white beaches.

Donwntwn Holland features Victorian architecture and traces of Dutch heritage, as well as eclectic dining, art and retail boutiques and an outdoor farmers market.

The city is also home to breweries and a distillery, including Big Lake Brewing, Our Brewing Co., New Holland Brewing Co. and Coppercraft Distillery.

National recognition

Holland has previously earned positions on various national rankings: “Top Five Safest Cities in the U.S.” and “America’s Prettiest Towns” by Forbes; “Happiest and Healthiest Places to Live in America” by Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index; “Top Five Best Places to Retire” by Money; and “America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
