A highrise downtown is inviting the public to design its light-covered dome that colors the city’s skyline.

McKay Tower in Grand Rapids started its Light Up the Dome contest earlier this month.

Design entry forms will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 16. If the winner is under 18, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to claim the prize.

Designs can include colors, symbols and patterns, but they can't include wording, blinking lights or scrolling images.

The entry form includes an outline of the dome and space to describe the design.

Following the deadline, McKay Tower staff will choose the top five designs, notify the contestants and allow the public to vote on the building’s Facebook page.

The winner of the design receives a two-night stay at McKay Tower and dinner by a Ballroom at McKay caterer.
