An association with more than 600,000 members has named a local financial administrator its Professional Woman of the Year.

The National Association of Professional Women, which is made up of 400 chapters, said last month that Leisa D. James, of Messiah Baptist Church of Grand Rapids, won the award.

The award recognizes her leadership and commitment to her profession.

"Born leader"

The association said James is “a born leader and a true and distinguished professional” who develops new processes to “strengthen her already solid skill set and bolster the efficiency of the organization.”

Prior to James’ position at the church, she spent two decades working in financial management in the telecom and retail industries.

Serving

Now James brings her financial knowledge to a place where she can also serve the community.

“I am passionate for projects and finances,” James said. “Making a difference in people’s lives is what makes it rewarding: being able to provide programs to assist and teach children and adults to have a better outcome in this life and the next."
