DETROIT — The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Michigan District Office announced its FY02 lender awards and has named Bank One Lender of the Year.

The award, for the best overall performance, was awarded to Bank One earlier this month at the SBA’s fifth annual Michigan Lender’s Conference in Lansing.

“Thanks to the efforts of all our lenders, in FY2002 the Michigan District Office guaranteed a record number of loan dollars. Although it was difficult to select one lender from the outstanding group, Bank One turned in an especially impressive performance,” said Richard Temkin, acting Michigan district director of SBA.

“As a finalist in every eligible award category, this bank also excelled in marketing SBA programs by co-sponsoring multiple events, including the Black Business Expo and the Hispanic Business Expo, further demonstrating its commitment to Michigan’s diverse business community.”

Other award winners included National City for 7(a) Lender of the Year, Comerica Bank for 504 Lender of the Year, Bank One for New Markets Lender of the Year and Capitol Bancorp was awarded the Business Development Lender of the Year award and the Community Lender of the Year award.

In FY02 the Michigan District Office guaranteed 1,071 loans worth more than $351 million. The benefits of SBA’s loan programs are felt statewide as small businesses in 314 cities within 70 countries received an SBA guaranty loan.
