Cooley Hires GR Campus Dean
Branham served on the faculty at Cooley from 1983-1996 and is a national expert on correctional and sentencing law and policy. After her tenure at Cooley, she became a visiting senior research scientist for the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and then served as a visiting professor of law at the University of Illinois College of Law.
“During the years that I was away from Cooley, I developed an even deeper appreciation for the reality that Cooley is at the cutting edge of legal education,” said Branham. “The law school doesn’t just ‘talk the talk’ about being committed to its students and serving the public, Cooley actually ‘walks the walk.’”
Cooley President Don LeDuc said he was delighted that Branham chose to return to the school and lead the effort at the Grand Rapids/Western Michigan University campus.
“Lynn was an outstanding teacher and made important contributions within the school as a faculty member,” said LeDuc. “Her scholarship in the correctional field was unfailingly of high quality and both fair and impartial, a combination most unusual in an area more commonly given to advocacy on a particular point of view. She will be an outstanding leader.”
